Care, Consciousness, and Communities Exhibition

A pop-up exhibition at the Center for Creative Photography (CCP) featured photovoice projects from the University of Arizona, Universidad Sonora, and Instituto Interamericano de Educación Superior para la Salud. The exhibition included interactive responses by visitors, community video commentary, and a virtual reality experience. Instagram posts captured responses from participants across the US.

A special Museum Day at the exhibition included three panel discussions—“Migration and Health in the Borderlands,” “Building Resilient Communities,” and “Care, Consciousness, & Community.” Beads of Courage led a wellness activity in conjunction with the TenWest Impact Festival.

Exhibition Impact

The Center for Creative Photography welcomed 1,550 visitors throughout the exhibition. Participants shared personal stories and creative expressions of what it means to be well. The responses took the form of zines, recipes, poetry, and sensory-based activities.

Student Curators

Students curated the exhibition by analyzing hundreds of photographs and narratives from nursing students, identifying three core themes: care, consciousness, and community. They designed interactive components where visitors could create health-focused zines, contribute to magnetic poetry, share personal recipes, and engage with photographs through their senses. These activities asked visitors to be active contributors, allowing them to add their own voices and perspectives to the exhibition. Students also worked on the exhibition design and installation at the Center for Creative Photography.
